A couple of my ‘CHD’ friends posted a link to this blog post today.

I found it very moving but have to admit I’m currently falling rather short of the model of parental love and devotion depicted here.

Seventeen years on, it serves a reminder of how I should try to be. In my defence, though, what I struggle with is how to incorporate the attention DD needs into a whole-family life. When she was in hospital it was easier to devote myself 100% to her, knowing that DS was well looked after wherever he was at the time. In my experience it is after the longed-for return home that things get more complicated and messy.

I read that piece on my FB feed this week and was in two minds about it. I understand the sentiment but the reality is quite different especially when you have other children. You cannot please all of the people all of the time. Your best is all you can give. You are giving it your best xx

You’re not falling short. She knows that you love her and that you are there for her. You’re only human and are bound to feel all sorts of emotions as well as love for her. Please don’t do yourself down…
